Peter had Vascular Parkinson’s, which although different from Idiopathic Parkinson, shares many of the same symptoms. The Oxford branch of Parkinson’s UK was a great support to us in the early years following his diagnosis. Peter and I used to attend both the weekly physical exercise classes and the voice and singing sessions - one of the symptoms of Parkinson’s is loss of voice, with Peter this eventually diminished to the faintest whisper but in those earlier days it was a good therapy. However, a wonderful thing we were able to do early on was to take part in a Christmas concert with the Parkinson’s group at Christ Church cathedral in Oxford. It was an big physical effort but certainly worth doing. Unfortunately we gave up attending the exercise sessions when he became seriously ill with pneumonia and his COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease) became a huge part of the rest of his life.
In this tribute we are supporting British Lung Foundation and Parkinson's UK. If you would like to help support the very necessary research and support offered please make a Donation or consider creating a Fundraising Event.
Thank you
